Shiranuhi

Shiranuhi is a supernatural movie that premiered in August 2026, marking a one-time theatrical release rather than a series. The film follows Minato, a ten-year-old boy living in a coastal Kumamoto town during the final days of summer 1996, whose difficult home life with an alcoholic father is offset only by his connection with Ben-chan, a goddess appearing as a young girl on a nearby island. When facing separation from his only source of comfort, Minato encounters a mysterious phenomenon—a Shiranuhi, an inexplicable light above the sea—and makes a desperate wish born from hatred, setting in motion supernatural consequences.

This project emerged as a collaborative effort from CoMix Wave Films, introduced to audiences at AnimeJapan 2024 under the direction of a rookie filmmaker. The supernatural premise combines coming-of-age struggle with folklore elements, exploring how a child's desperation and resentment can manifest in unexpected ways.
