Animation × Paralympic: Who Is Your Hero?

Animation × Paralympic: Who Is Your Hero? is a special series that brings fictional Paralympic athletes to life through acclaimed Japanese animation studios and renowned creators. Rather than following traditional sports anime formats, the project collaborates between comic artists and animation directors to craft unique character stories centered on various Paralympic sports. The series launched in fall 2017 with the goal of expanding its sports coverage leading up to 2020.

The special format allowed each episode to be helmed by different creative teams, resulting in distinct visual and narrative approaches. A Kyoto Animation episode was in development for broadcast in August 2019 but was ultimately cancelled, as the studio determined it could not complete production in time for the 2020 Paralympic Games following the tragic arson attack on their facilities in July 2019.

This project targets viewers interested in both sports storytelling and high-quality animation, offering an alternative perspective on Paralympic athletics through character-driven narratives rather than documentary approaches.
